Ben Hammersley has a point in this article when he says that "Google, it seems, has jumped the shark" in comparison to Yahoo. I use google search as a matter of habit, and Google Suggest is one of the coolest and most useful things ever. But Yahoo's come up with some pretty cool stuff of their own lately (I used their Creative Commons search just a couple of days ago), and now that they've bought flickr I'm sure there's more cool stuff on the way.
But I suppose it really comes down to your basic search, and for that I (being a completely unqualified and unknowledgeable person to comment) would say that Yahoo is always going to have enormous amounts of trouble convincing people to leave Google behind.
