I'm currently trying to revise for my 'Intro to Computer Systems' exam, but I've discovered I have issues trying to visualise the concept of virtual memory... until today! It turns out that I can easily grasp any computing concept if I somehow relate it to arts. So, sitting in front of me is a diagram of virtual memory, using the very powerful analogy of the National Library! Yep, instead of trying to visualise chunks of data flying around somewhere in the dark depths of a computer, I'm now visualising what happens once I request a book on the American civil rights movement from the NLA catalogue. Surprisingly effective!
Sometimes having the split personality that comes with being an Arts/IT student is actually a benefit...
