In the paper today, tales of war and of waste...

I've decided I shouldn't read the news anymore. I'm going for a total ban. Why? Because whenever I do I read a story that's so ridiculous and so preposterous that I get so, so angry that I start shouting at innocent people nearby and scaring them and end up doing even less work than usual because I'm so incredibly angry.

So the story that has just caused this reaction in me? This one. Because according to the 'Australian Family Association' (just the name should be enough to set of alarm bells), seeing a girl being taken to a amusement park by her two mothers could "influence children's sexuality." How?!? What's the average age of a Play School viewer? 4? 5? Yeah, because seeing two women take a girl to an amusement park (they didn't kiss, hold hands, start going at it hammer and tongs on the ferris wheel...) influence a 4 year old's sexuality?!

I am so over the Liberal Government and their 1950s mindset. And it's not just me - The Independent, a UK paper, had this to say at the end of an article on the topic:
The row has exposed the cultural divisions in Australia, a country that stages one of the world's most exuberant Gay Mardi Gras parades in Sydney but is headed by John Howard, a prime minister, who embraces the values of the 1950s. He announced legislation to ban same-sex marriages last week.

In other news, the Harry Connick Jr CD 'Songs I Heard' is very cool. Especially Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. And only partly because of the name... :P

I agree, this country is going to hell (in a hand basket, as Rhian puts it). I've decided to move to Canada...or Switzerland.
