15 down, 1 to go

Australia wasn't the only place holding a completely depressing election today. Afghanistan's first presidential election was held today, but it doesn't look like it turned out that well, seeing as 15 of the candidates pulled out because of suspicions that illegal multiple voting had taken place. This meant that, well, there was only one candidate left: the current president, Hamid Karzai.

Certainly fits with George W. Bush's description of 'a triumph for democracy'...

There was a great bit on the glasshouse a few weeks about with lisa forrester (?) olympic swimmer who went to the 1980 moscow olympics. while australia went there were photos of all the atheletes in the post offices calling them traitors and the then treasurer, little johnny, aka the rodent, offered them $2000 not to go. the reason for the boycott? russia had invaded afghanistan...... ah..... shoot me to or maybe we should all follow ani defranco to canada and die of old age....
